Living in Midlothian, TX

Midlothian is home base for me, and it’s one of the easiest places to love if you want suburban convenience with a small-town feel. You’ll find newer homes, larger lots, family-friendly amenities and a downtown that keeps getting better. It sits about 25 miles southwest of Dallas, with easy access to Fort Worth too.

What it's like to live here

Midlothian has grown a lot, but it still feels like a place where you run into someone you know at Kroger. Downtown is having a moment with the completion of the Lawson District and the addition of several new shops and restaurants. Founders Row has local shops like Nik-Nik’s Boutique, tucked inside a historic home, and Twisted Sisters is a favorite for family pizza night. Between the parks, local businesses and community events, there’s plenty to do without driving into the city. You’ll also see the “Cement Capital of Texas” sign as you come into town, a nod to the cement plants that helped build Midlothian.

The commute, honestly

Midlothian is one of the best-positioned towns in Ellis County if you work in Dallas or Fort Worth. Plan on 35 to 45 minutes to Dallas, and know that traffic depends a lot on the time of day. Drive your commute at rush hour before you buy.

Who Midlothian is a great fit for

  • Families who want newer homes, good amenities and a bigger yard
  • Buyers looking for acre lot communities, which are a big draw here
  • Buyers commuting to Dallas, Fort Worth or somewhere in between
  • Anyone who wants a small-town feel with shopping and restaurants close by
  • Buyers looking at new construction, who’ll have plenty of options to compare

Common questions about Midlothian

Is Midlothian, TX a good place to live?

For a lot of families, yes. Midlothian offers newer homes, larger lots, parks, local businesses and community events, with access to both Dallas and Fort Worth. It isn’t perfect. Growth is real and traffic depends on the time of day. But if you want space and convenience in one place, it deserves a look.

How far is Midlothian from Dallas?

About 25 miles. Depending on traffic and where you work, plan on 35 to 45 minutes.

Is new construction a good choice in Midlothian?

It can be, and Midlothian has a lot of it. Builder contracts favor the builder, so bring your own agent and get an independent inspection, even on a brand-new home. I’ll tell you when a new build is a great value and when a resale home makes more sense.
